上个月,Matthew和我开发了一个名为Bitboxland的互动视听表演移动程序。我们想要小试牛刀,用它来表演一下;同时我们也想让观众亲眼见证这个视听创作的过程。所以我们想到了个方法…

Last month, Matthew and I created a mobile audiovisual performance app called Bitboxland. We wanted to take it on a test ride, letting the audience witness the creation of live music and visuals with the app. So we came up with an idea to display what we were playing live with our phones on a head-mounted display.

经过好几轮的测试、打样、编曲和练习,我们终于建立了一个“简单”的操作系统。只需要一部手机,一台摄像机,一台笔记本电脑、一块液晶显示屏以及一套木制框架将以上物品与身体绑定。这使我们看起来好像DIY机器人一样笨拙,但是显然奏效了。

After rounds and rounds of testing, prototyping, composing and practicing we built a “simple” system. It consists of a phone, a DV cam, a laptop, an LCD-display and a wooden structure for attaching everything to our bodies.
We end up looking like socially awkward DIY robots, but it works!

在公司的新年餐会上我们首次登台表演,给观众展示了一场互动式音乐体验,是个狂热的经历。我们收到了掌声一片、奖金一些、粉丝一把,还有从隔壁餐会跑来拍照凑热闹的小朋友两个。

We had our debut performance at this year’s Chinese New Year dinner. It was a wild experience conducting our interactive musical experiment in front of an audience. We received some applause, some prize money, and even a few fans…..two little kids from another party came over to take photos!

Xmas in Spain

经过两个月的准备,我终于满足了一个心愿:去西班牙过圣诞和新年。

我只拜访了马德里,托雷多,萨拉曼卡和阿维拉。

After planned for two months, I finally made my little dream come true: I spent Xmas and New Year in Spain.

I only visited Madrid, Toledo, Salamanca and Ávila.

马德里:首都城市,适合漫步探寻。我最喜欢皇宫和普拉多博物馆。

Madrid: It is a capital city you can roam and explore whole day long; I really like the Royal Palace and Prado Museum.

托雷多:它曾是西班牙的首都,直到1560. 城中到处是古建筑,犹如踏进了中世纪的欧洲。

Toledo: It was the capital of Spain till 1560. I felt like stepping back to the Middle-Ages of Europe with all its medieval architectures around.

萨拉曼卡:是座大学城,物价比较低。有很多美食:伊比利亚火腿,香肠和甜品. 这就是节日的意义吧,要不怎么会有借口每天享用三个小时的午餐呢?

Salamanca: It is a university city and the commodity price is lower than big cities in Spain. Here I indulged myself in the festival banquet and enjoy the famous Jamón ibérico, chorizo and mazapan. I think this is the meaning of festival; otherwise where we can find an excuse to have a three-hour lunch everyday?

阿维拉:最有名的是它的古城墙,是于11,12世纪建成的。看起来有点像我们的长城。

Ávila: It is famous for the old wall, which was constructed in the 11th and 12th centuries. It looks a little like our Great Wall.

新年前夜,大家聚集到大广场,随着新年钟声,每敲一下吃一粒葡萄,一共12颗。

On the New Year eve, people gathered in the big square and eat 12 grapes one by one, with every beat of New Year bell.

Save wild animals

哥本哈根世界气候大会的会议结果让人失望,希望所有人都能关注我们的生存环境,如果环境继续恶化下去,首先遭殃的很可能先是野生动物,所以做了这个木板雕刻“长颈鹿化石”。不希望等到这些动物灭绝以后,只能在化石上去想像这些美丽的生灵。保护环境,从我做起。
ps: 一个可以降低碳排放的生活小贴士:离开公司,请关闭电脑。

The result of Copenhagen UN Climate Change Conference disappointed me a lot. I really hope all of us could pay close attention to the environmental condition around us. If the environment continues deteriorating, wild animals will be the first victim. That’s why I made the “fossil of giraffe”. I don’t want to only picture out how beautiful once those creatures were from the fossil after they were extinct. Protect the environment, start from myself.
PS: a tip that can reduce the carbon emissions: please turn off the computer when leaving the company.

Yaya’s last day

今天是Yaya在W+K上海工作的最后一天。转眼你来到这里已经有一年半的时间了。感谢你的加入,你的付出,你带给我们的欢乐。我们会时常想念你的。

Today is Yaya’s last day at W+K Shanghai. It’s been such a crazy year and a half since she joined here. You’re doing a great job and brought a lot of happiness since you came here. We will most definitely miss you, yaya. XOXO~

Arkitip Issue No. 0053X: John Jay x Alex Calderwood

The x has become a ubiquitous, sometimes overused mark of collaboration in streetwear. But the poet Ryunosuke Satoro said, “Individually, we are one drop. Together we are an ocean.”

X已经成为无所不在的一个符号,有时候在街头服饰的融合中都被滥用了,但是芥川龙之介曾经说过:“单个的我们是一滴水,但联合起来就是海洋。”

That philosophy is the inspiration for the latest Arkitip, curated by Alex Calderwood (Ace Hotel) and our very own John Jay. For this issue, artists, technologists, writers and friends were asked to show a recent collaboration or create something new.

这种哲学成为最新一期Arkitip的灵感来源,由Alex Calderwood(Ace酒店)和我们的John Jay策划,这一期当中,艺术家、技术专家、作家和朋友们都会展示最近的合作或者创作一些新的东西。

Jelly Gen @Studio J

While in Portland, Francis and I stopped by the Jelly Gen show at the Goldsmith Gallery, curated by Studio J, John Jay’s studio. John put together an impressive roster of Chinese-born artists, designers, musicians who were born in the ’80’s and ’90’s. Most I had never heard of, but who hail from all corners of the world, reflecting the diaspora of Asian identity and art.

在波特兰,Francis和我看了Jelly Gen的秀,是由John Jay的工作室Studio J策划的,John把一票令人印象深刻的80后90后华裔艺术家、设计师、音乐人找到一起,大部分我从来没有听说过,但是他们来自世界的各个角落,反映了亚洲特质和亚洲艺术的分布情况。

The work was printed on large sheets of paper, some pasted together to make bigger sheets, and hung on strings threaded through the space. It had a DIY feel, also creating walls of visuals to walk through.

作品都用大幅纸张打印出来,有的还要几张拼在一起,然后挂在穿过空间的绳子上,有种DIY的感觉,也创造了一种穿越视觉墙的感觉。

The Bus we used for the Converse Love/Noise tour back in ‘08 was one of the biggest things on display (Couldn’t miss it as you walked in). And there was a whole section dedicated to the photos and videos that came out of that epic tour.

我们在匡威爱噪音公路履行用的巴士成为最大的展品之一(你走进去的时候完全不能忽略它)。另外还有一个区域完全用来展示那次史诗般的旅程中记录下的影像和视频。

“Love Noise” was chosen as one of “The 10 Best Campaign in China in 2009″ by Adage China

2009年12月17日—Adage China刊登新闻稿,评选出2009年度10大杰出营销活动,匡威的爱噪音也榜上有名。

名单次序依照营销活动的出街时间来排列。当时匡威的原始报道标题为“匡威以独立摇滚的名义贩售球鞋”。

这个系列评选由Adage China发起,记者Normandy Madden形容道:“全球的市场人都在寻找革新的方法,将品牌内容、互动媒体以及音乐巧妙运用到广告中,这点我们从中国市场学到了很多,今年一些营销活动的形成带来了高质量的作品。

17th, Dec. 2009- Adage China today released the news letter on a sort of conclusion for 2009 including a list called “The 10 Best Campaign in China in 2009″, Converse’s Love Noise Campaign was on.

The list is in order in which each campaign was rolled out. The original report was entitled “Converse sells sneakers through indie rock”.

The selection was made by Adage China as they indicated “Global marketers looking for innovative ways to use branded content, digital media and music in advertising could learn a lot from China, given the superb quality of some campaigns developed in that country this year.” (By Normandy Madden, the reporter.)

Taking creative idea and inspiration as guideline, W+K has been paying close attention to local culture of China and exploring people born and growing here. It concerns with creative clusters in China with unparallel enthusiasm and sincerity, discovers young Chinese with talent in design, art, video and music, encourages and guides them to grow into new creative personnel with solid foundation, open idea and global view.

Any form of validation is the motivation for better work in the feature. 2010, here we are!

Xiuhong delivered a baby boy! Yeah!!!

我们的互动制片秀红于12月21日产下了一个3.9千克的小男孩,他的名字叫江莱,寓意将来。今天已有一些同事陆续去医院慰问了新任妈咪和宝宝,他们都精神奕奕。江莱是我们W+K上海2009年诞生的第五个也是最后一个宝宝。希望明年能有更多的成员加入到W+K上海的大家庭!

Our digital producer, Xiuhong, just delivered a 3.9KG baby boy on Dec 21th. His name is 江莱 which sounds like “future” in Chinese. Some of us from the office visited the new mom and baby today and both are super happy! :) He will be the last baby out of 5 born in 2009 from our office. We hope that next year, we’ll get more new additions to the W+K Shanghai family!

Honda ‘Everything’

W+K伦敦团队刚奉送了他们新鲜出炉的Honda广告“一切”,非常出彩的作品,将会于2010年1月18日在詹姆斯·卡梅隆的《阿凡达》首映上正式播出。广告展示了Honda在技术领域的深度和广度。从沙滩车、船用发动机到摩托车甚至人工智能。影片强调了Honda如何通过在宽广的知识和技能中提取精华并应用到现代的车中,并着重强调是英国出品的Civic。干的漂亮!

Our W+K London team just sent us the new film for Honda, ‘Everything’ and it is truly an awesome spot. It will air on UK TV on 18th January 2010 during the premiere of James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’. The film showcases the breadth of Honda’s engineering experience; from ATVs, to marine engines, to motorcycles, and the humanoid robot, ASIMO. The film highlights how Honda has distilled that varied knowledge and expertise into the cars it makes today - focusing in particular on the British-built Civic. Well done W+K London!

Dino–Off to Portland!

这周我们得到了一个喜忧参半的消息,我们客户部的帅哥Dino将离开上海前往位于雨林地带的W+K波特兰并就此展开一番新的事业。他将加入波特兰办公室的耐克团队。对他的离开我们深感不舍。

每一个团队伙伴的离开都会让我们感伤,但是这对他来说会是一次精彩的体验,而且每次这个大家庭的一员到其他办公室的探访都仿佛给我们添加了更多燃料,引爆我们更多的激情。Dino会于圣诞期间返回上海,我们会及时奉送告别派对的精彩画面给大家。

Dino,保重,我们会想念你的。期待下次的见面。

We got a bit of bittersweet news this week that account guy and all around gentleman Dino will be leaving Shanghai for the rainy green that is W+K Portland. Dino will be joining the Nike account team out in PDX and we’re very sorry to see him go.

It’s always sad to see one of our friends leave the nest, but this is going to be an amazing experience for him and we’re always stoked to have a family member / spy out at other offices. Dino will be back in Shanghai for Christmas and we’ll be sure to share photos of what’s going to be a truly awesome send off party.

Good luck Dino, we miss you and can’t wait to see you again.
